Well, I tried the recipe again - With tofu this time! I have to say, I haven't perfected it yet. The tofu I purchased was already cubed, and it was way more diced than I thought it would be. So next time I make it, I will be cutting up my own tofu block. Also, I over-fried my tofu, overheated my oil in the pan, and over-reduced the sauce. So I have to make it again soon!
If you try this recipe with chicken, let me know how it works for you. I'm probably disturbing the balance by trying to make it with tofu... But I'll keep trying until I get it right!
I'm using the same recipe card as last week, but with new ingredient and cooking photos. For the tofu, make sure it is dry (it's usually packed in water when you buy it) by pressing towels on the tofu for about 1 solid minute before frying. That is the secret to getting it crispy (and make it taste like chicken, haha). I learned how to pan-fry my tofu by looking up Food.com's recipe here.
