If you want to impress a date or your family, make these croutons with leftover bread to top on salads (or could be used as great breadcrumbs for baked pasta!). It will amaze your friends or family and the best part? It only uses TWO ingredients. I learned this trick when I used to work for Panera Bread while in college, but have used it on old crusty bread since then.
Now, I have to confess: The bread I used in these photos was not the best choice. I had leftover hamburger buns, so they worked fine, but they weren't as old and hard as I would like the bread to be. So, if you have a few pieces that are a few days too old, that are a little tough when you touch the crust, this would be perfect.
If you have a few heels left over to a loaf of bread, this is a great way to use them up.
I hope you enjoy! Let me know if you have any troubles with it. And send me pictures of your homemade croutons if you do try the recipe! Any bread should work.
