This is a great recipe because it is easily customizable. You can throw three ingredients together and have a complete dish. But if you have a few extra ingredients on hand, you can add them in, too. For example, I have a ton of different cheeses in my fridge, so I mixed the various cheeses I had to make my cheese mixture. Likewise, if you wanted to add some cooked ground beef or sausage, that would be a great addition, too! (But if you only have mozzarella or cheddar in your fridge, that is a-okay.)
This is a quick weeknight meal. It is super easy to double/triple - or make it small enough to feed just a few people. If you feel like you need more pasta, or more sauce, or more cheese, do what feels right to you! You could make spaghetti and call it a night, but if you want something that is easy to cook (and great for reheating in lunches or dinners later in the week), this elevates that basic dish.
The following ingredients are optional. I used cooking spray to prep my 9x9 pan, but that's a personal preference. I also added salt to the boiled water once it was ready, before adding the pasta. I do this with almost every pasta I cook, unless the recipe tells me not to. And the pasta sprinkle was something I had on hand, so I thought I'd add some on top of the pasta. This is of course optional, but if you have it lying around, you may as well use it, right?
